Goodbye to "Civilian-ship"...

The end of civilian life came for me on the 10.8.2011.
It was my turn to serve the nation.

I was posted to the home team, SCDF (Singapore Civil Defence Force)
The life saving force.

As unprepared as I was alongside the many pre-enlistees, we had a sleepless night the day before enlistment.

Thankfully, I've got my friends and family who were there for me all along..
They threw a farewell party for me a few days before enlisting.

They made me a photo book for memory sake as well as to keep me company.

It was really a big change enlisting, i guess it took me quite awhile to adapt to it.
Your freedom's gone and it's back to routine life, not under your control.

You're completely shaved for the first time.
You didn't know that the breeze could be that cooling with a shaved head.

Two weeks after my confinement, I was posted to Civil Defence Academy as a Section Commander Trainee. I will undergo a 6 months course specializing in Fire Rescue.

The training's been rather tough for me personally as I am not physically active, all those who knows me, knows that. When i first got posted over, i struggled a lot but i just bit the bullet and accepted it as a challenge. With my fellow rota-mates who motivated one another, we are now 4 months through the course, with approximately 2 more weeks to our senior term and 2 more months to go before our passing out ceremony.

The course has also given me opportunities to work on my leadership skill, one of which was our Outward Bound Sabah experience.

We climbed mountains, traveled across the island and conquered the Sabahan Jungle.
The Outward Bound experience was unforgettable.

Another learning experience was mixing around with the other home team departments.
We made new friends and learnt more about each others' task in keeping Singapore Safe.

It was a wholesome 9 days course at Home Team Academy, simply memorable.

With 2 more months of training, I've just got to continue to maintain my focus and determination to pass out from the course. No doubt, it is tough. But i've just got to psycho myself to the finishing line. I've just got to do it.

We never know what will be thrown at us,
but it’s up to us, as to how we deal with whatever does come.

PS: To keep my timeline in sequence, I've backdated this entry to September though it was blogged on 20.11.2011.
